Introduction
Welcome to my e-portfolio. My name is Shannon Meaney-Ryer. I hold an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts, a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, emphasis in public law, from San Diego State University, with a minor in management, and an MLIS from San Jose State University emphasis in emerging technologies and library leadership and management.
I started to work in the library and information field in 1992 by enrolling in two important courses in high school – Library Studies and Introduction to Technology. Both courses were taught by an inspiring teacher/librarian named Mr. B. He was so passionate in his teaching of these two courses, that he sparked my interest in becoming a librarian.
Over the last 20 years I have worked in both public and academic libraries. My academic library experience includes community college, public, and private universities. The bulk of my experience is in Access Services and Emerging Technologies. My interests lie in Library Management. I was extremely fortunate to be employed by the University of California San Diego, where I acquired skills that allowed me to obtain a position as Head of Circulation for the Lane Medical Library at Stanford University and Senior Librarian for Access Services for the San Jose Jose Public library System. Currently I am the Access Services Department Head and Publishing Librarian at Saint Mary's College of California.
In addition I enjoy contributing to my blog “The World According to the Spunky Librarian” (http://thespunkylibrarian.tumblr.com/) and also contributing and participating in SLA, ALA, and CLA. I have attended many conferences , including CLA 2008, 2010,2016 ALA midwinter 2011, ALA Annual 2015, 2014. SLA Silicon Valley Chapter dinners and meetings. I have participate in an integrated library systems conference IUG 2012-14. I was a committe member of Northern California and Nevada Medical Library Group form 2008-2015; communication committee member 2010-2015 and NCNMLG joint meeting co-chair 2012-2015.
Currently I am the co-chair of the NorCal IUG 2017 conference and the co-chair of the CLA circulation interest group.
