Conclusion and Summary
Finishing my e-Portfolio is bitter sweet for me. Since I was 16 years old working in my high school library, I have been dreaming of the moment that I would achieve my master’s degree in Library and Information Science. Working through SJSU SLIS program has been an eye opening experience and has contributed significantly to my over 20 years of experience in the library profession.
I came into the program with extensive library technology and management experiences. In SLIS I have learned key factors in library leadership, emerging technologies and information management that have added skills that are going to enable me to excel in my professional career. These courses have strengthened me as a person and a professional within the library field. It also gave me the opportunity to work and learn from innovators in the information field and encouraged me to become a member and participate in library professional associations.
The portfolio gave me the opportunity to do an in depth analysis of the library and information profession. It also allowed me to understand how each competency gives meaning to being a library professional. My work in this e-portfolio also gave me the opportunity to express my ideas, show my work and incorporate what I have learned about the profession, helping me refine and focus my own career path.
The information field is in a state of change. I am excited about the opportunity to be a leader in that change. I will always advocate for the library and information field. I will continue providing information access, and support life changing personal and professional growth of all whose lives I touch. Challenges such as learning emerging technologies and working with others to improve, as well as looking at new innovative staffing, leadership, resource, services, marketing, budget and fundraising models has motivated me to continue my professional and personal growth beyond the degree program. I will become a lifelong, self motivated learner who will contribute to my profession and provide library leadership that will improve the lives of those I serve.
